The Beaverton Rural Schools Athletic Hall of Fame announced its 2014 inductees Friday.
January 23, 2014
Entering the Hall during a ceremony on February 14 at BHS between the JV and varsity basketball games will be Rick Brubaker, a bruising running back who starred during BHS football’s greatest era; standout basketball star Carter Schumacher, an exceptional athlete who excelled on the hardwood in the late 1960s; and the 1984 Varsity Boys Basketball Team, whose inspired tournament run 30 years ago took the team – and the entire Beaverton community – all the way to the state semifinals.
“It’s hard to go wrong with this group of inductees,” said committee member Scott Govitz. “Each of them was a slam dunk for the committee, and as special as Legends Night always is, we expect this year’s event to be even more so. There are going to be a lot of old friends and familiar faces in the gym, and for those of us who witnessed any of these gentlemen in action, it’s a terrific way to take a look back.”
Govitz said enshrinement ceremonies will occur between the JV and varsity boys’ contests on February 14 at approximately 7:30 pm.
Before that, a public reception will be held in the school cafeteria beginning at 6:00 pm for honorees, their families and any well-wishers who would like to attend. Existing members of the Hall in particular are encouraged to take part.
“This is our sixth class of inductees, and every induction ceremony has provided some goose-bump moments,” he said. “Legends Night at BHS is a great portrait of the Beaverton community at its best. It’s always a thrill to gather all these local sports legends in one room for an evening, and we expect this induction to be something special.”
