Inductions Set.
For Immediate Release: January 5, 2015.
The Beaverton Rural Schools Athletic Hall of Fame has announced its 2015 class; Cathy Kintner and Eric Richardson.
Two new inductees will enter the Hall during a ceremony on February 6 at Beaverton Junior-Senior High School. One is Eric Richardson, a multi-sport standout whose athletic and academic acumen made him a star in the Jack Pine Conference and the Ivy League; the other is 30-year Director of Bands and Choirs Cathy Kintner, whose marching bands and pep bands have provided an award-winning soundtrack to hundreds of athletic contests during her career.
“In terms of the committee’s decision-making process, these are two slam dunks,” said committee member Scott Govitz. “Eric excelled on the field and in the classroom at Beaverton and Penn, and Cathy has simply made our music department the envy of every school in the conference and beyond; it’s difficult to quantify the impact our bands have had on BHS athletics, but it’s significant.”
Govitz said enshrinement ceremonies for Richardson and Kintner will occur between the JV and varsity boys’ contests on February 6 at approximately 7:30 pm. Before that, a public reception will be held in the school cafeteria beginning at 6:00 pm for honorees, their families and any well-wishers who would like to attend. Existing members of the Hall in particular are encouraged to take part.
“Legends Night at Beaverton is special, and because of the inductees this year, we expect it to be especially so,” he said. “This evening is a great portrait of the Beaverton community at its best. It’s always a thrill to gather all these local sports legends in one room for an evening.”
