(BEAVERTON) – The Beaverton Rural Schools Athletic Hall of Fame has announced its 2016 inductees.
The 1976 Boys Basketball squad, whose exciting run to the quarterfinals set the tone for four decades of dominant Beaverton basketball, will enter the hall as a team. The induction ceremony will be held between the JV and varsity boys’ contests on Feb. 19 at approximately 7:30 p.m. at Beaverton High School.
Prior to the ceremony, a public reception will be held in the school cafeteria beginning at 6 p.m. for honorees, their families and any well-wishers who would like to attend. Existing members of the Hall in particular are encouraged to take part.
“That ’76 team was a solid mix of big men, ballhandlers and outside shooters,” said Scott Govitz of the BHOF Committee. “They really took the community on a thrilling ride, going 23-2 on the season, making it all the way to the state quarterfinals and providing some signature Beaverton basketball moments that endure to this day. This team is a very worthy addition to the hall.”
Members of the team included Doyle Durkee, Mike O’Brien, Jeff Roehrs, Ken Neighbors, Randy Shroufe, Brad McLean, Emory Stubbs, Joe Garvin, John Schofield, Barry Dull, Arlie Russell, Randy Zdrojewski, Gary Graham and Steve Kebler. The team was coached by Roy Johnston.
Biographies, statistics and photos for all members of the Hall of Fame will be available soon at www.beavertonhalloffame.com.
