Beaverton Hall of Fame Announces 2017 Inductees
The Beaverton Rural Schools Athletic Hall of Fame has announced its 2017 inductees. Entries this year include Jeff Johnston, an all-state basketball player whose 1984 squad made it all the way to the state semi-finals; the 1991 Girls Basketball team, the first Beaverton girls’ team to win a regional title; and long-time basketball announce Scott Govitz.
The induction ceremony will be held between the JV and Varsity boys’ contests on February 17 at approximately 7:30 pm at Beaverton High School.
A public reception will be held in the gymnasium’s mezzanine beginning at 6 pm for honorees, their families and any well-wishers who would like to attend. Existing members of the Hall in particular are encouraged to take part.
“These are three very worthy choices that were absolute slam dunks for the committee,”said Shad Woodruff of the BHOF Committee. “Jeff’s an all-time Beaverton great who also enjoyed a very successful college career. That ’91 girls’ team set a new standard for success for the Beaverton teams that would follow. And Scott has been a loyal friend of Beaverton athletics and an invaluable contributor since before he graduated high school.
Biographies, statistics and photos for all members of the Hall of Fame will be available soon at beavertonhalloffame.com.
